Le projet Nichoir Urbain a été initié par le Rotary sous la présidence de Pierre Philippe. L'objectif était de créer un projet qui associe la nature, le design et la ville. Étant enseignant en Licence DNMADe (Diplôme national des métiers d'Art et du Design), il était judicieux d'intégrer les étudiants au cœur de cette action, et cela, pour trois raisons :
1. Sensibiliser les élèves à la chute mondiale des populations d’oiseaux dans le monde.
2. Leur faire prendre conscience de notre capacité à agir à notre échelle pour restaurer les écosystèmes locaux.
3. Leur permettre d’avoir un projet validé par le territoire et implanté dans la ville avant même d’avoir fini leurs études.
Pour réaliser notre projet, nous avons réuni un comité “ Nature - Architecture” composé de la LPO Normandie, du service biodiversité de l’intercommunalité, de Monsieur Le Maire et de ses conseillers, du responsable des bâtiments de l’intercommunalité et d’autres membre du club.
À la suite de différents échanges, huit lieux compatibles ont été identifiés avec huit espèces endémiques et migratoires de la région :
L'hirondelle de fenêtre, le moineau friquet, l'effraie des clochers, le martinet noir, la mésange charbonnière, le faucon crécerelle,
la pipistrelle commune et le hérisson d'Europe se sont joints à la liste au vu de la situation préoccupante de leur population sur le territoire.

The "Urban Nesting Box Project" was initiated by the Rotary Club under the presidency of Pierre Philippe. The objective was to create a project that combines nature, design, and the city. Being a teacher in the DNMADe (National Diploma of Art and Design Professions) program, it was judicious to involve the students at the heart of this initiative, for three reasons:

Raise students' awareness about the global decline of bird populations worldwide.

Make them realize our capacity to act at our scale to restore local ecosystems.

Enable them to have a project validated by the community and implemented in the city even before completing their studies.

To realize our project, we assembled a "Nature - Architecture" committee comprising the Normandy branch of the LPO (French Bird Protection League), the biodiversity department of the intermunicipal authority, the Mayor and his advisors, the intermunicipal authority's building manager, and other club members. Following various discussions, eight suitable locations were identified, each corresponding to eight endemic and migratory species of the region:
The house martin, the house sparrow, the barn owl, the common swift, the great tit, the kestrel,
the common pipistrelle, and the European hedgehog were added to the list due to their concerning population status in the region.
